John Juanda has joined the likes of Scotty Nguyen in terms of stature in a recent tournament. Besides the turnouts, the biggest story of the weekend was of course the John Juanda heads-up comeback over Phil Hellmuth. Juanda notched his fifth bracelet, putting him in great company with Chris Ferguson, Berry Johnston, Allen Cunningham, Scotty Nguyen, Jeffrey Lisandro, Ted Forrest, Stu Ungar and Gary Berland. That's quite a crowd. As for Hellmuth, he was dejected, but there was no blow-up.
NGUYEN GOING FORWARD
Scotty Nguyen has revealed that he will be going forward from the various issues that have been affecting his game recently. When Scotty Nguyen stood up from the table and contemplated a big river bet — with a smile on his face and a large crowd for a $1,000 event at the Bellagio looking on in anticipation — it almost seemed like it was 1998 again, more than a decade before a day called Black Friday rocked the game of poker.
NGUYEN QUALIFIES FOR NEW TOURNAMENT
Scotty Nguyen is just one of the several poker stars to have qualified for the latest poker tournament. In 2005, NBC was looking for new programming during the NHL lockout and broadcasted the first annual National Heads-Up Poker Championship. Today, the event is a staple for both NBC and the poker world, and the 2011 tournament is just days away.
NGUYEN ELIMINATED
Scotty Nguyen was one of the high profile eliminations from the latest poker event. During the day 2A, the game was fast and many great professional players have seen their dreams shattered. But it is certain that nobody was much disappointed that Marlon Wayans. Playing a very patient and cautious throughout the day, Wayans has made carpet with pocket kings against an opponent with a pair of ladies served. Wayans has even won the draw nut flush and his opponent had only one out. A lady fell in the river and Wayans was removed in an extremely dramatic.
NGUYEN BELIEVES POKER HAS CHANGED
Scotty Nguyen says that new poker players now trust more of luck than their talents. In an exclusive interview with Poker Jolt, the five-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner said online poker had caused a variety of styles to emerge which makes Hold'em a very different game to the one he dominated a decade ago.
But the 48-year-old, who won the WSOP Main Event in 1998, said he still intimidates younger players from the online ranks - and feels he could yet repeat his most famous triumph before he retires from the game.
NGUYEN SKIPS WSOP EUROPE
Scotty Nguyen has skipped WSOP Europe to play small Poker events in USA. Scotty Nguyen hasn't announced an official travel schedule just yet, but his first stop will be in Durant, Oklahoma at the Choctaw Casino for the T.J. Cloutier Classic. Nguyen and his wife Julie will arrive on September 23rd and stay through the $1,650 Main Event, which gets underway on September 25th. The Choctaw Casino, which is located about an hour from Dallas, Texas, will also be hosting its first-ever WSOP Circuit Event in January, giving Midwest poker players a lot to look forward to in the near future.
NGUYEN GOING STRONG
Scotty Nguyen has proved his skills at Poker once again as Two former World Series of Poker main event champions, Scotty Nguyen and Johnny Chan, have been holding their own at this year’s event, though Chan has dropped into the lower 40 chip leaders after spending time among the top 10 these past few days.
By 6 pm PST some 300 players still remained, including Chan and Nguyen.
Scotty Nguyen was pretty far down at 247 at press time.
Nguyen won the 1998 World Series of Poker Main Event[1] and the 2008 WSOP $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. World Championship.
NGUYEN FINISHES IN 8th
Scotty Nguyen wasn't too happy when he blogged about finishing 8th in the Bellagio Poker Tournament...
"For those that do not know, this was my second year in a row making a deep run in the World Poker Tour Championship at the Bellagio, finishing 6th place last year and now 8th place in this year’s event. I came into the event this year just knowing it would take a lot to throw me off my path of winning for my fans and family. I’d like to tell you about my thought process in my elimination hand because it had many different elements to it."
NGUYEN FACES SEIDEL IN THE SEMIS
NBC aired the elite eight of the National Heads-Up Poker Championship on Sunday. Four of the eight poker pros were World Series of Poker bracelet winners. The tournament wraps up this Sunday, May 23rd, on NBC.
Eight-time WSOP bracelet holder Erik Seidel took Peter Eastgate to school in their matchup. Eastgate lost pots of $30,000 and $40,000 to be down 10-1 in chips. On the final hand Eastgate committed his stack with Q-7; Seidel held K-6 of diamonds. The board came 7-10-5-K-5, giving Seidel a pair of kings and a trip to the final four.
NGUYEN MAKES TOP TEN
After seven days of play, David Williams emerged as the champion of the Season VIII WPT World Championship. David Benyamine, Phil Hellmuth and Scotty Nguyen all finished in the top 10.
The $25,000 buy-in World Poker Tour World Championship attracted 195 players this year, a drop from the previous years. The field was however filled with some of the biggest names in poker who generated a prize pool of close to $5 million.
